چکیده

Biological vision systems are capable of discerning detail as well as detecting objects and motion in a wide range of highly variable lighting conditions that proves challenging to traditional cameras. In this paper, the authors describe the real-time implementation of a biological vision model using a high dynamic range video camera and a General Purpose Graphics Processing Unit. The effectiveness of this implementation is demonstrated in two surveillance applications: dynamic equalization of contrast for improved recognition of scene detail and the use of biologically-inspired motion processing for the detection of small or distant moving objects in a complex scene. A system based on this prototype could improve surveillance capability in any number of difficult situations. DOI: 10.4018/978-1-4666-1758-2.ch013

An Simd-vliw Smart Camera Architecture for Real-time Face Recognition

There is a rapidly growing demand for using smart cameras for various applications in surveillance and identification. Although having a small form-factor, most of these applications demand huge processing performance for real-time processing. Face recognition is one of those applications. In this paper we show that we can run face recognition in real-time by implementing the algorithm on an ar...

A Smart Camera Mote Architecture for Distributed Intelligent Surveillance

Surveillance is one of the promising applications to which smart camera motes forming a vision-enabled network can add increasing levels of intelligence. We see a high degree of in-node processing in combination with distributed reasoning algorithms as the key enablers for such intelligent surveillance systems. To put these systems into practice still requires a considerable amount of research ...

Domotics for disability: smart surveillance and smart video server

In this paper we address the problem of human posture classification, in particular focusing to an indoor surveillance application. The approach was initially inspired to a previous works of Haritaoglou et al. [6] that uses histogram projections to classify people’s posture. Projection histograms are here exploited as the main feature for the posture classification, but, differently from [6], w...
